Moving into the Wild

Okay moving into the wild may sound a bit dramatic but to be fair between the weather being an absolute monsoon and the time crunch that my lack of planning and procrastination didn’t help, it FELT like we moved into the wild.

May 31 is my birthday and is also the day we decided to leave our rented duplex in the city and move to our 9 acre property where my husband has been slowly building our 768 square ft offgrid house over the last few years. My husbands dream has always been to build his own house. Does he have any experience building houses? No. But he is a journeyman cabinet maker so basically he is a carpenter but takes longer because everythig has to be perfectly measured.

So we found a lovely bit of 9 acre property that a farmer had subdivided off of his quarter section, it used to be pasture to cows so I am convinced the soil will be wonderful for the garden I am determined to eventually have, and we began the long journey of building a house without any real experience at all. We do have a friend who is a contractor so lots of questions went his way and really county doesn’t care if youre a professional to build a house as long as you pay for permits and things pass inspection so that’s cool.

So spring of 2023 we purchased our 9 acres and never looked back. This blog is sort of my journal of our journey, I will try to share pictures and what not so i have this memory of our adventure and how it all started. So join along if you wish and enjoy the chaos that is this crazy adventure we call life.

I am Janelle

Welcome to my little piece of the world where I can share a little bit about my life, our journey in building our very own homestead, some crafty content, and just adventures of our family.

I am a mom to two boys, and a bonus mom to two boys, and one girl. My fiance and I purchased 9 acres a couple years ago and we are building our future forever home. It will be completely off grid and our goal is to be as self sustaining as possible. We are learning as we go.

If any of this sounds interesting to you, please follow along for our journey.
